Ashley Mares is a writer and law student.

She received a BA in English Writing from Azusa Pacific University in 2014. She is in now the process of completing her J.D. from Monterey College of Law. She lives in Monterey, CA with her wonderful and supportive husband, Daniel.

While working at a law firm during the day and attending law school classes at night, she tries to write at every spare moment in between.She has been published locally in her home of Monterey, CA, along with in various online and print journals. She served as a poetry editor for her university magazine, The West Wind, in 2014. In 2011, her poem, “Nothing is As it Seems,” was selected for a Carl Cherry Center for the Arts award.

She is the author of  A Dark, Breathing Heart  (dancing girl press & studio) and The Deer Longs for Streams of Water (Flutter Press).

She tries to live by the words of Ernest Hemingway and write the truest sentence she knows.
